My embroidery books

Last year I started embroidery and I love it. Only thing is that I am way too slow. For inspiration and techniques I bought some books:

SDC10418

This was my first embroidery book, which I never used for a long time. It contains cute little designs. Typically Japanese!

SDC10416

As the one above this is very Japanese. The designs are so cute. I love the designs and the ideas what I can use them for.

SDC10420

I think this book contains every stitching technique which exits. Most things are not my thing, but it´s fun to explore all these different possibilities.

SDC10417

In this book you find a lot of ideas what to make with embroidery. Mostly they work with felt. Of course it´s a childrens book, but you can easily use this for other designs. The projects are really easy and quick to make.

SDC10209

I already wrote about this book here: http://sewingfairytales.blogspot.com/2010/03/sublime-stitching.html and made one thing more from it. I really enjoy this book and can´t wait to make more.

SDC10419

White work is so beautiful, but I am so bad at it. But you can´t stop me from doing it. The designs in this book are so beautiful, but you have to decide about the stitches by yourself.

Plans for June

What I want to make in June:

- Safari outfit for summer party at work (our theme this year is "Out of Africa"); I already decided on a pattern for a skirt(this) and maybe if I have enough fabric and time I want to make a vest DONE

- dress for my dearest almost four-year-old Emily for a wedding DONE

- maybe sew my blouses

- embroidery for my 1914 Afternoon Tea dress

- some scrap sewing

What I made in May

I failed my challenge for May disastrous. Mostly it was my own lazyness. I only cutted one blouse and sewed it halfway.

At least I made some other things:

- a skirt out of Bine´s great fabric

- skeleton earrings
- embroider the wrap skirt that laid around here for over a year

Make something new of something old

When I wanted to put on my Dunkelsüß T-shirt, I saw that it looked really bad. After washing the fabric was a mess. So I changed it into a top.

Making jewelry

To celebrate my earholes I am all into jewelry making at the moment. And to give me some inspirations I bought some (ok, ok a lot of) books. And here are some reviews:

Fast, Fun & Easy Fabric Cover-Button jewelry

SDC10370

http://www.amazon.de/Fast-Easy-Fabric-Cover-Button-Jewelry/

A big disappointment. It´s nothing new. If you browse at etsy you find enough inspiration to make you own button jewelry. Only the ideas to use glass beads is a bit creative.

Stitched jewels

SDC10371

http://www.amazon.de/Stitched-Jewels-Jewelry-Stuffed-Gathered/

The book itself is great. Great creative ideas and great photos, but it´s not my style. This book and the jewelry is more a piece of art. But I am sure I can use some techniques.

Fabric jewelry

SDC10369

http://www.amazon.de/Fabric-Jewelry-Wrapped-Braided-Sewn/

I don´t know yet how to use it, but the ideas are great. It´s mainly about making beads out of fabric. Great way to use some fabric scraps.

The naughty secretary club

SDC10367

http://www.amazon.de/Naughty-Secretary-Club-Working-Handmade/

This is my favorite. It´s really my kind of style, kitschy and big. XD I hope to make something from this.

No real jewelry book, but really cute:

Old-Fashioned Ribbon art

SDC10368

http://www.amazon.de/Old-Fashioned-Ribbon-Art-Accessories-Decorations/

There are no real how-tos, but it´s very good for inspiration. You could use these ribbon art for all kind of things, brooches, fascinators, shoe clips and so on.

Oh, and I already made something:

Top 5 Sewing Projects for rest of 2010

I found this entry http://sewaholic.net/top-10-sewing-projects-for-2010/ and was inspired to make a list of my own. So here it is:

1. Sew a "Lady of Shalott" dress.

Do you know the painting by Waterhouse? I love it and I want such a dress for myself for ages. So, I have the pattern, orderd the fabric and some matching buttons.

2. Sew something for a men.

Maybe a Cowboy shirt for my Dad or a classic shirt for my boyfriend. Don´t know yet.

3. Make jewelry.

I know not really a sewing project, but maybe I can combine these.

4. Sew solid color skirts and blouses.

I love patternd fabric, but it is hard to combine if you have no solid color pieces.

5. Sew more for others.

I feel so selfish if I always only sew for myself. Now I only need ideas.

And: No fabric shopping till August, because I have so many yards laying here. The same for patterns. *sigh*

May Challenge

Because I am crazy and to overcome my lazyness here another challenge. But not as hard as the last one.

Sew 3 black blouses in May

And these cuties I want to sew:
