Bento

I recently discovered Bento Boxes again. And bought two new books and supplies.

I already owned the Kawaii Bento Boxes Book. It has a lot of tips to make cute faces and so on. I think I would not make one of the recipes, but it´s nice to get some ideas. And it has also ideas to make a more western bento. Some complained that the recipes are not very healthy, but I think all in all it´s healthier than the stuff I could buy around my workplace.

The Yum Yum Bento Box book is the same style as Kawaii Bento Boxes. There are a lot of animals, faces, cute things and so on. More aimed at kids bento. But I really like to look through the books just for fun.

The Just Bento Cookbook is more aimed to adults. There are some really nice ideas and recipes for different lunches. The author also has a great blog with the same title. I think I will try some things from this book. And even if I make my own recipes the book provides ideas for packing the bento.

And here are the supplies I bought. It´s all cute stuff. I already tested the sandwich cutters, but they did not work with my bread. Maybe I can soon test the others.

And finally my first bento box I made for a long time. It were all leftovers of our dinner. And I have to say, the box with the rice looks tiny, but it was so much. Next time I have to fill only half of the box.

Review - Alice im Schlaraffenland

(in German only) Ich glaube ich habe eine Obsession für Kochbücher entwickelt. Und als mir dieses über den Weg gelaufen ist, musste ich es haben.

Der Hauptaugenmerk des Buches liegt wohl eher bei den tollen Fotos, die immer eine Szene aus Alice verbunden mit den verschiedenen Speisen darstellen. Es macht wirklich Spaß, durch das Buch zu blättern. Ich finde auch die Ideen für die Speisen nicht schlecht, allerdings werde ich wohl nicht so bald etwas davon nachmachen. Bei den Torten merkt man dann auch, dass der Hauptberuf der Autorin Konditorin ist. Die sehen alle so toll aus.

Alles in allem finde ich das Buch für Alice-Fans eine schöne Bereicherung der Sammlung, allerdings (zumindest für mich) eher was zum Angucken, als zum Nachmachen.

Review - Wee Wonderful

I was always against making dolls and plush toys, because I have already so many at home. But then I found this book and I had to have it. The ideas are so cute. The author shows such a lot of different styles and techniques. There are not only dolls for girls, but also things boys would like. And of course many would make great gifts for adults too.

Unfortunately I had no time to try any of the dolls, but the patterns are in the back of the book in original size. There are many projects I like, but first I want to make this topsy turvy doll (or maybe the Marie Antoinette doll or the bears or Miss Storybook or ...). It´s really a wonderful book. Even if you only browse through it, it makes you smile.

Review - Embroider Everything Workshop

I have this book for quite a while now, but never posted it here. I saw it first at another blog and ordered it immediately. It´s a shame I did not stumble on this ealier.

This is such a great book for beginners. I love all the different projects. Some are simply adorable, but there are also some useful projects, which I really like. They feature a lot of different embroidery techniques and different skill levels. I have a lot of things I want to make. In the beginning of the book you find the usual explanation of stitches and so on. But also a great article why to embroider.

All in all I really love this book. It does inspire me to do embroidery more often (if I only had the time). Hopefully I can make this great belt in the photo soon (maybe before summer is over, I even have some matching buckles).

Tomorrow is the first day of my final exams so I have to set my mind on other things to not go crazy. A good excuse to read a lot of blogs and watch all those television shows nobody needs.

Stitch Swap

Last week I finally got the hoop from my swap partner. I was so excited to see, what it would look like. And I am so amazed. This hoop is so beautiful and so well done. I really love it. It was made by Sara Boehnke.

I am really happy I participated in this swap and think I would do it again.

Going 30s

This is my first 30s dress and I have to say, it was so easy to make. I stumbled over this pattern (Hollywood 955) at Etsy for a really good price and had to have it. Sewing was a dream and I really like the outcome. It´s a bit different than my usual style at the moment, but it was fun to wear.
