Christmas Lolita Meet-up

10154033.gross

Last Sunday we had our annual christmas lolita meet-up. It was so cold outside and snowed almost the whole time. But it was nice nonetheless.

We visited the Moritzburg Museum. They have a collection of modern art. Not everything was my taste, but there were also some really great pieces. Before that we were invited to a short organ concert. This was really nice too.

After the museum we went to the museum coffee house. There we all had something to drink and eat and then of course exchanged our presents. My donee got a nail polish, some fabric and a lot of tea. She really liked it, which I am glad of. Sometimes it´s so difficult to find a nice gift. I got a hairbow and a brooche. It´s all selfmade. I really like it, but right now I am not sure with what to wear. But someday I will use it.

My outfit was improvised, because of the weather. But I liked it. It was very cozy. And black and white is always nice. Unfortunately my curls didn´t like the weather. They were so pretty when I undid the pin curl set.

Outfit Rundown:

Blouse - Innocent World
Vest - Mango
Skirt - Metamorphose
 Tights, beret - H&M
Boots - Sencha

1930s pants

I finished these pants already in October. Unfortunately the photos I got did not turn out very well. But I want to show them to you nonetheless.

The pattern is from Wearing History, the Smoth Sailing1930s Sport Togs. I saw them on a lot of vintage blogs and it were some of the only pants I really liked. It was the second Wearing History pattern I sewed.

The fabric is a blue jeans stretch. It´s really nice and soft. Working with it was fabulous. The pattern was also great. Everthing went together very easy. I was between two sizes, but decided on the bigger one, but the pants fit so well. I really love them. I wore them a lot in October and November with tights under them. This was so cozy. But I can´t wait to wear them in Spring and Summer with some nice blouses.

I also plan to make these maybe in a nice white/cream cotton for summer.

Review: Everything Oz

DSC_2300

I bought this awesome book some while ago, but finally made some things out of it. I already made a review for their first book "Everything Alice", which I really liked, but I have to admit, despite not liking the Wizard of Oz so much (neither the book nor the 30s movie) I love this book. They did such a great job translating the motives into very nice projects. And there are also some projects that are a bit more useable, like a poppy t-shirt or a bath towel for kids. The book contains not only craft projects but also recipes. The themed cupcakes are great.

DSC_2296

And because I had the book, the shoes, the right dress and of course the dog I had to make some photos. I made the apron and the shoes from the book. The shoes were pink and I got them cheap at ebay. Working with the hot glue was not so nice, it almost killed my fingers. But I really like the outcome and like it much more than the glitter option (and it´s a lot tidier).

The apron is a great way to use up leftovers. It was a bit difficult to find fabrics that matched, but I think in the end it works. I only regret that I made it to wrap in the back and not in the front. I think maybe I should have invested a bit more time to make the straps longer.

DSC_2283

Oh, and here is the dress on its own. I made it already last year, always waiting for an opportunity to make some photos. So finally I managed it. I used the Simplicity 4136 for it. Sewing was a bit more complex, but it was a nice pattern to use.

American Duchess Give-Away

Lauren from American Duchess is hosting a give-away for her new 1920s shoes. Aren't they great? They would fit my style at the moment so well. I prefer the white with brown ones. I don´t really need white shoes so often and I have still my Edwardian ones. So check out her shop.

Long time no see

9865327.gross

I am sorry for the long absence. The last weeks I tried to settle in my new student life. I think I finally got the hang of it.

There happened some things the last weeks. First we had a lolita meet-up. We visited our local museum of historical instruments. It was really interesting and we had fun taking photos and talking. Here are some photos by the awesome Krone:

Then there was my birthday last weekend. We visited my parents home. The weather was so wonderful. The was one of my few birthdays with nice weather. The Friday before I finally cut my hair much shorter. I played with the idea for a while now, but was never brave enough to do it. When I finally decided on it, my hairdresser had no time. So I went to the store bought scissors and a little color and did it myself. I am really happy about the outcome. It looks much better and is easier to style. The color is not perfect and I am not sure if I will do this again, but overall I am quite satisfied.

Visiting the zoo

DSC_2007

Last week I had my last day at work, which was our annual works outing. We went to Leipzig and visited the zoo. We had a private tour in the primates house. It was very interesting. Our guide knew so many stories and was so funny.

After that we had a canal tour. I didn't know that something like this was possible in Leipzig. The weather was beautiful and it was so nice to see the city from the boat.

The evening ended in a private club house. It did feel so elegant and special to be there. All in all it was a wonderful day and maybe my favorite works outing in all the years. Of course I was sad because it was my last day, but it was easier so. I bet if it was a normal working day I would have cried so hard.

Now I am a student again. I want to make my Bachelor of Laws in Business Law. The last week was very strange. It was all so confusing. Where to go, what lessons to take and so on. But I am sure I will manage that. Now I only need a job to get some money.

A lot of wood and a birthday party

DSC_1856

My father celebrated his 60th birthday this weekend and so my boyfriend and I headed to my hometown. Before the big party we took the opportunity and visited "Blockhausen". This a kind of "village" (it´s only three or so huts) made of block houses. There are exhibited a lot of wooden sculptures made with chainsaws. These are so cool. I really can't imagine how they make all the little details.

Fairytale Food

DSC_1845

I discovered this little book when I was browsing Amazon. Of course I couldn't resist buying it. A Fairytale Cookbook? Yes, please.

DSC_1847

And it did not disappoint me. I can not say much about the recipe. They seem to be not very very easy, but manageable. But I really like the pictures and the little texts. And it's nice, that there are not only the same fairytales, but also some unusual ones (Princess on the pea for example). And there is also my favorite one, Beauty and the Beast (the burgers sound delicious).

A ... B ... C...

DSC_1830

Yesterday the daughter of my friend got to first class and we had a little party. And because I remembered a dress I made some years ago, which I did not wear anymore I thought I make a new blouse. The fabric of the dress has colorful letters strewn about.

DSC_1815

I had some trouble finding a matching fabric for the collar. I had only very little of the yellow, but it was so perfect. In the end it was just enough and I am really happy with my choice.

I decided on New Look 6808. The only change I made was to omit the darts at the waist, so that I could skip the zipper. I mean to wear the blouse only tucked in, so this is no problem.

I had some trouble with attaching the collar, but this was mainly my fault. Somehow I made one mistake after the other.

DSC_1835

When the blouse was finally done, I had some trouble finding a matching outfit. I really lack some solid color skirts. And I also had no tights anymore. In the end I decided on my only jeans. I think it goes well with the blouse.

The party was so much fun. I enjoyed myself very much. And I hope the new school kid has fun tomorrow.

Outfit rundown:

Blouse: made by me, New Look 6808
Jeans: H&M
Belt: Vintage (Etsy)
Bag: Bodyline
Shoes: Deichmann

40s pajamas

DSC_1812

I couldn´t resist buying this pattern. It was just too cute. And I need something warm for winter. At least I have to make some comfortable pants for home soon, because my old ones ripped and I have not replaced them yet.

My plan was to use some fabric from my stash, but as it mostly consists of leftovers I did not found something nice. After I searched in vain for half an hour, I gave up and ordered a polka dot cotton almost like the one at the right girl.

The rest of the afternoon I watched "The Lizzie Bennet Diaries". It´s a modern take on "Pride and Prejudice" one of my favorite books.

Mollie Makes

CIMG3678

The magazine "Mollie Makes" is around for quite some time now, but till now I could resist to buy it. But lately I was just too curious and ordered three issues.

The pictures in these magazines are stunning. I could spend hours only browsing the photos. There are also some cute tutorials, but most of the things I would not make. I can't say much about the articles, because I did not read many of them. I think they are a bit like reading blogs, only all in one place.

I am not sure if I will buy an issue again. I wait till I see the next themes. But the extras in "Mollie Makes" are really cute. I love the ribbon and the crochet needle.

Picking Flowers

DSC_1772

Because of our third anniversay I thought I make a dress my boyfriend would like. So because he liked the cover of Simplicity 1872 (because of the short skirt and the neckline) I decided on this one (I bought it mainly because of the sleeves to use with another pattern, but hey).

I then had the crazy idea to make it out of silk chiffon. So I decided on one I already had at home and ordered some more. This is the first dress I underlined and my first french seams. I am happy I underlined the top, because the chiffon was so hard to work with.

DSC_1773

I changed the pattern a bit and only made one skirt, no double layer. I used the upper skirt of view C, because the under layers are attached to a yoke.

The lining fabric is also silk. I cut up my old Rococo Dress for it (it hurt a bit, but really, I will never wear it again, because it doesn't fit me anymore and the fabric was not good enough for this project).

Sewing the top and the skirt lining was very easy. The pattern got together really well. I had some trouble with the chiffon skirt, because the hem was not even.

I added an elastic in the waist, because otherwise the dress looked like a sack and I was not sure a belt would be enough to make it look good. I even found a pink one that does not show through.

DSC_1776

All in all I am satisfied with this dress. Unfortunately it's not something I really like to wear. I feel a bit naked wearing it. So it's nothing for work. But I think I will wear it at the weekends or special occassions. At least my boyfriend liked it.

And sorry for the hair style. I had to curl my hair for the next day and had nothing to cover it.

Oh, and did you know Barbie had a Youtube Channel? The Life in the Dreamhouse episodes are really funny.

New Patterns

I bought some new vintage patterns over the last few months.

40s

DSC_1766

I can´t decide on a favorite here, but I really want to make the coat at the bottom. I hope I can make it for this winter.

50s

DSC_1765

I couldn´t resist this elegant suit. It looks so pretty. And the maternity pattern is so cute.

60s and 70s

DSC_1764

Isn´t this skort not adorable? I wished I already made it, it would be so useful for this hot weather.

Follow the laws

DSC_1745

A former colleague of mine, who is now studying law asked me if I could make a bag for her law book. She had only an ugly grocery bag, which fitted the measurements, but didn´t like it. She wished for something colorful and bright. I used some fabrics I had already at home (the patterned one is from Ikea) and had it done in an evening. I really like to sew quick things from time to time.

DSC_1749

I really like the bag. I tried to be really careful and I think it looks very neat and professionell. The receiver said the liked it a lot. I hope she does and the bag will be useful.
