Yellow

To get into the habit of taking photos I challenged myself to take a picture of something yellow each day in January. It was not so easy to find something everyday, but except for some days, when I forgot to make a picture and had to make two the other day, I succeeded.

I took a photo challenge before, but with a theme for each day. This challenge was much easier and therefore more fun. The pictures are not very artistic, but I like them nonetheless.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

the-great-gatsby-character-map_514d045268c55

I wrote about the movie last year and now I finally managed to read the book. It was surprisingly short so I finished it in two days. The story was very much like in the movie, so they did not make any dramatic changes.

I really liked the novel. The characters came out a bit clearer than in the movie. It has a very nice speech and gives a great picture of the time.

I would give this book 4/5 stars.

Fairy Tale Knits by Alison Stewart-Guinee

DSC_3449

Okay I admit it, you can catch me with fairy tales. I love everything fairy tale related and so of course I could not resist this cute book.

DSC_3450

The book has only children patterns. The patterns are grouped after the fairy tales they were inspired by. There are a lot of girls patterns but also some nice ones for the boys. I really like the pirates section and the ones inspired by the Snow Queen. I hope I manage to make something from this book for the little one, when he is a bit older.

Princess Dress

DSC_3446

One of my favorite things from the 70s are the princess like Maxi-dresses they created back then. I wanted one of these dresses for a very long time, but somehow never found the right one. But finally I own one and I love it. The only problem is, that I can't wear it at the moment, not only because it doesn't fit my bump, but also because it is far too cold outside. But at least I can look forward to summer and dream about some princess moments.

Line Camera App

DSC_3457

One of my favorite camera apps for my phone is the Line Camera. Line is a Japanese chat app, which is very popular there. And because of the popularity of the normal chat app, they released many more apps like games, photo sharing apps and this camera.

DSC_3458

The camera has a lot of filters and frames. You can edit the brightness of your photos and all the other stuff. What is special about this app are the many stamps you can download. Some are free, but for the most you have to pay.

It is a lot of fun to edit photos with this app. I use it a lot and spend much money on the cute stamps.

Simply Crochet Magazine

DSC_3440

When I was at the newsstand I couldn't resist the new Simply Crochet Magazine. For one there was a moustache on the cover and it came with a pom pom maker as an extra. The patterns in this issue are nice. Because it is the christmas issue, there also some christmas things to make. Maybe I can use these for the next christmas.

I think my favorite besides the moustache is this headband which reminds me of the 20s.

Vintage lace gloves

A new addition for my glove collection are these cute little lace gloves. They are from the 80s and I think will be great for the summer.

The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman

DSC_3451

After finishing another Musketeer Book (Twenty years later) I needed a light read and decided on this novel by Polly Shulman. I would label this as YA, but enjoyed it nevertheless.

The story centers around Elizabeth, who starts to work at a library for things. There you can lend clothing, household items and so on for study or use. Elizabeth works as a page. Her job is to bring the objects from the different stacks to the users of the library. But there are not only normal objects. Elizabeth discovers that there are special collections like the one called "The Grimm Collection". And of course this collection leads to some unusual adventures.

I enjoyed this book very much. The library sounds like a great place and I wish I could go there and discover all the objects (Marie Antoinette's wig!). But as much as I enjoyed reading it, I had the feeling it could have been better. I know it is YA, but somehow the descriptions could have been a bit more detailed. The characters were okay, but a bit flat.

All in all I liked the book. It makes for a nice light read and the fairytale part makes up for the minor faults. I liked the main character. She did not act stupid like characters in other books, to get the story going. The concept of the book did work out and there were no gaps.

I would give this book 4/5 stars.

The new Ottobre

DSC_3442

When I bought the latest Ottobre magazine I was lucky to get an older issue for free with it. Fortunately I did not already have this issue and there were some cute things in it. I am not such a great fan of the Ottobre for women, but I adore the ones for children. They have such cute ideas in it.

Here are my favorites of the two issues:
